Tips for Shopping

August 17, 2014

If you ask my husband, I shop a lot. I look at shopping as a way for me to relax and find new and exciting pieces to add to my closet. Whenever I have a day off, I like to venture out and see what my favorite stores have added to their collections. Some days I spend nothing, others I spend a bit. It all depends on how I'm feeling and what I really need. I always get questions about how and where I shop and I wanted to give you girlies a few tips and tricks for the perfect shopping day.

Know what you have. I always like to know what I have in my closet before I go out and buy a duplicate piece of clothing I didn't need. Personally I have a pretty good memory, but if you don't you can always carry a closet notebook that lists everything you already have. You can also create a list of what you're looking for when you go out shopping so you don't veer off the list. I have to app Stylebook downloaded on my phone. It's a pretty cool app to organize your closet and build outfits. It even helps you pack!

Splurge a little on essentials. You know that one white tank top you wear everyday? It's probably best you get a well made one so it can stand the test of time. You also don't have to splurge on these pieces either. I have my favorite nude tank that I purchased from Target I wear almost everyday. I purchased a few so I could wash the rest while I wear the other. They will last you longer and in the end save you money so you don't have to go out and buy multiples if it gets ruined or shrinks.

A few essentials I splurged on were my basic white tees, destroyed skinnies, comfy moccasins, and my everyday watch.

Check the daily deal sites. These are my favorite sites to check everyday. I always find at least a few things I really want, whether it be jewelry, clothes or even things for my apartment. My faves are Jane.com and Hautelook.com.

If you second guess, don't purchase. This has been the hardest lesson I needed to teach myself. I find a few pieces of clothing I like, but don't love and I stand in the store second guessing the purchase. I've taught myself that if I second guess, I don't purchase it that day. If I go home, sleep on it, and still want it the next few days I'll go back and get it. Trust me, this will prevent you from buying things you will return later.

Mailing lists are your friend. Having a full mailbox is somewhat annoying, but they can save you money in the end. I do a lot of my shopping when I get a good deal email or even a coupon code. I always check my email when I wake up and in the middle of the day.

I hope these tips helped you in some way or another! I try to live by these tips to help with making my closet perfect, which in my eyes it never will be! The joys of being a fashion major!

  1. These are tips I definitely keep in mind :) It's dangerous going shopping without keeping in mind what you have or how often you'll actually where it!
